Contact Lens Fittings
Getting started with contacts involves a thorough eye examination. In addition, an evaluation of your suitability for contact lens wear, intended purpose, necessary lens care kits, individual instructions for wear and care and follow-up visits over a specified time. The following is a list of commonly used contacts lenses:
Gas-permeable (GP)
Made of slightly flexible plastics that allow oxygen to pass through to the eyes. These are commonly used for astigmatism.
Daily-wear soft lenses
Made of soft, flexible plastic that allow oxygen to pass through to the eyes.
Extended-wear
Available for overnight wear in soft or GP lenses.
Extended-wear disposable
Soft lenses worn for an extended period of time, from one to six days and then discarded. Today, there are lenses approved for 30-days of continuous wear.
Planned replacement
Soft daily wear lenses that are replaced on a planned schedule, for example, monthly or quarterly. These are commonly used for patients with special visual needs.
